CADCAM- Mastercam Software and Mastercam Training Overview
These days, you can use your computer for almost anything. Computers are used to regulate traffic, operate trains and design buildings. While it may not be a well known fact, computers are also used to design and manufacture many of the products and items that people take for granted. Computers have been used to design and manufacture furniture, appliances and a lot of other things that make modern conveniences possible.
This is done through the use of CADCAM software. CADCAM is an acronym that stands for Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing. However, some industries refer to this technology as CAD/NC, or Computer Aided Design and Numerical Control.
CADCAM software utilizes a variety of computer aided design drawing tools to design items based on their exact geometries and measurements. The data created during the CAD portion of the process will then be utilized during the CAM portion to control tools and machines. These machines can then proceed to create items identical to their digital counterparts.
Back in the old days before the advent of real computers, many industries already utilized numerically controlled machines during the manufacturing process. These machines were controlled using letters and numbers allowing them to manufacture items of various shapes and size consistently. This kind of technology was very common back in the 1950ââ,¬â,,¢s where punched paper tapes were used to provide machines with the information about the items they were supposed to manufacture. Holes were punched into the paper tapes to simulate the numbers and values that would dictate how the motors on various manufacturing machines operated. These early numerically controlled manufacturing machines provided a solid foundation for later CADCAM based technologies.
Numerically controlled machines became even more common in the 1960ââ,¬â,,¢s when a number of numerically controlled machining centers popped up all over the country. These centers employed various automatic tool changing processes and machines to manufacture a wide variety of products. Some of these early machines could already accomplish many of the tasks that modern machines are capable of. They could work with various surfaces of a 3 dimensional object using different types of tools. Many companies preferred this method of manufacturing due to the consistency and speed at which these machines manufactured products. Human manufacturing factories at the time would be hard pressed to keep up with a numerically controlled manufacturing plant. This is the primary reason why CADCAM is so useful and profitable. These new manufacturing plants could function with little need for human supervision. The process was made even more effective with the introduction of feedback loops. Feedback loops are systems that allow a machine to send data to their computer controllers regarding what exactly it is doing at the moment. The computer controller will then relay up to date information about what the machine should be doing at any particular moment.
Today, CADCAM is an indispensable part of society. Learning how to use CADCAM software can also provided an individual with very valuable skill sets that can be used to earn a respectable income.
